A few weeks ago, we published a post on the why, what and how you can be partnering with us financially. However, that’s only one way to partner – that’s why we use the word ‘partner’ and not just ‘give’. Another way to support missionaries before, during and after they go is prayer

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Colossians 4:2-6

Why pray?

A big question with a simple answer – because we can. We have the honour of lifting everything up to God in prayer, and that includes mission and missionaries. Elisabeth Elliot, a missionary to the Amazonian jungle, said that “Prayer lays hold of God’s plan and becomes the link between his will and its accomplishment on earth. Amazing things happen, and we are given the privilege of being the channels of the Holy Spirit’s prayer.”

What can we pray for?

So far, we have been putting prayer points down the bottom of our blog posts. As of the post after this one, we’ll start putting them at the top of the posts so that they are more visible and so that, if you’re after a quick version of an update, you can read them and pray while they’re on your mind.

As of writing (January 2025), you can be praying for our upcoming information night, for more people to partner with us and that God would be guiding us as we continue training and support raising while both working full time. We’re also learning French on a Thursday night, which has both been awesome and exhausting as normal life resumes.

As for other matters, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith. But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.
2 Thessalonians 3:1-3

You can also be praying for other missionaries, both those you know and those you don’t, especially those who are in closed countries and are risking their lives for the gospel. Hebrews encourages this in 13:3, “Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.”

How do we partner in prayer from here?

Following this blog by subscribing is the best way to keep up to date with our monthly updates. We’re also considering starting a Whatsapp group where we post dot points once we head overseas – if you are interested in being part of that, we’ll set something up closer to the time we are going.

It might also be helpful to have reminders of missionaries that you care for around the house – if you want a prayer card, but are unable to pick one up in person, we’re happy to mail you one to stick on the fridge. I have also created some prints and stickers to help you remember the people of the Basque around the house.
Something that would be super helpful is, if you are praying for us, or thinking of us, let us know! You can do so through this website, and clicking ‘like’ or leaving a comment, or sending us a text if you’re thinking of us. You can also do this in person – thank you to those who have let me know they’re reading the blog and found something interesting 🙂 This will be even more important once we head overseas as well, in combating isolation and loneliness.

The purpose of both posts on partnership have been aimed at an audience who may never have thought about partnering with missionaries before, and what that looks like practically. Hopefully, through this blog and in conversation, we are able to be above board with what we’re doing and why, and genuinely create partnerships as we go overseas with a new generation of Christians as well as people who are well versed in what it means to support overseas mission.

As always, if you have any questions, thoughts or comments, please send us a DM or get in touch through the contact part of the page.
